Performance

The new Ford Expedition and Expedition Max are both powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine and your choice of rear- or all-wheel drive. The standard version gives you 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque but on most Limited models, the output is elevated to 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. There's also an even more powerful version on the Timberline trim and an upgraded version of the Limited that can get you to 440 horsepower and a muscular 510 pound-feet of torque.

The Timberline model can take you to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, which is remarkable for a big SUV. The Ford Expedition has a towing maximum of 9,300 pounds and the longer Expedition Max is rated for up to 9,000 pounds. The Expedition with rear-wheel drive can give you up to 17 MPG in the city and 23 MPG on Michigan highways. With all-wheel drive, the EPA estimates are 16 MPG in the city and a maximum of 22 MPG on the highway.
