Buy or Lease a New Ford EcoSport

Although the subcompact crossover SUV segment is loaded, the Ford EcoSport manages to stand out with its easy-to-use infotainment system and above-average cargo capacity, in addition to its high level of maneuverability as a small vehicle. Not bad for a nameplate that’s only four years old.

Trim Configurations

The Ford EcoSport is available in four trim levels. The S is the vehicle’s base trim, with the SE as its significantly enhanced version. The Titanium represents the nameplate’s luxury-level variant due to its handful of comfort and convenience enhancements. The top-of-the-line SES focuses on performance optimization, as evidenced by the base 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine replaced by a larger and more powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder workhorse.

Safety Features

The Ford Co-Pilot suite is standard on the Ford EcoSport to provide driver-assistance technologies, which are the following:

  • Automatic high beams for low-visibility situations
  • Lane keeping assist for gently steering you back to your lane when you begin to drift out of it
  • Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection to help avoid collisions
  • Blind-spot information system for detecting hard-to-see vehicles approaching you
  • Rearview camera for producing a video image when attempting to park

If a crash occurs, the Ford EcoSport can deploy any of its seven airbags, which comprise a driver’s knee airbag, two frontal impact airbags, two front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and two roof-mounted side curtain airbags. Accompanying the seven-airbags system is an SOS post-crash alert system to send for emergency assistance if needed. If you go with the SE model, Ford adds rear parking sensors to the rearview camera to provide audible alerts when you’re getting too close to bumping into something.

Standard Equipment

The Ford EcoSport is a five-seater, with two rows of cloth-trimmed seats to accommodate up to five people. The rear seats have 60/40 split-folding ability to expand cargo space when needed. The Titanium and the SES have a steering wheel that can be heated when the weather is cold or chilly. Because the Titanium is the luxury-oriented model, Ford replaces the cloth seat trim with leather, gives the driver’s seat six-way power adjustability, and adds heating ability on the front seats.

Stain-resistance seat trim is exclusive to the SES.

Each Ford EcoSport model comes with Ford MyKey, which allows you to configure your car key to control the vehicle’s safety settings—whether you’re behind the wheel or not. MyKey can be used to set the Ford EcoSport’s maximum speed, radio volume limit, or seatbelt alerts. The SYNC communications system provides the vehicle’s infotainment by combining a six-speaker AM/FM stereo system, a Wi-Fi hotspot for 4G LTE Internet access, two USB ports for playing media from or smart-charging mobile devices, and a 4.2-inch screen.

You’d get a huge bump if you go with the SE instead of the S. The most significant upgrade is the infotainment system, which gets the SYNC 3 treatment with the additional trial subscription to SiriusXM Radio, as well as an 8-inch touchscreen instead of the 4.2-inch display. In addition, access to the cabin and engine starting are made much easier with proximity keyless entry and push-button start, respectively. Other SE gains include a power moonroof and an automatic climate control system.

The SES stands out with a seven-speaker stereo system, which replaces the six-speaker setup on the S and SEL. For ultimate entertainment, go with the Titanium trim, which adds trial subscriptions to SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link, a voice-activated navigation system, and a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system (instead of the six- or seven-speaker system) to SYNC 3. In addition, the rearview mirror gets auto-dimming ability to dim headlight glare from vehicles behind you.
